Mikes

I can't tell you how happy I am that Mike's Restaurant is here in the Village! I love having a place to have excellent steaks on a Friday night. Garnished with mushrooms and onions (I am back on the Atkins diet again). Before I went on the diet the Chicken Picata was marvelous as well as the seafood.

Chef Mike has worked in quite a few top places in the City and in Las Vegas as well, I would write them here but I forgot them in my haste to eat the steak he put in front of me!

All of you know that I don't push places, but this is over on the west side of Valley Lakes in the strip mall on Wilson Road. Mike’s Grill & Catering-- 399 North Wilson, Round Lake, Il. 60073

Make A Difference the Round Lake Way

Make A Difference Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others -- a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Everyone can participate! Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October. The next event is Saturday, October 27, 2007. Millions have participated. In 2005, 3 million people cared enough about their communities to volunteer on that day, accomplishing thousands of projects in hundreds of towns.

Make A Difference Day Comes to Round Lake!
A food drive is being organized on behalf of our village this year. Kicking off in early October, area schools and residents will be able to make food donations to benefit the COOL food pantry, our area’s newest food pantry, which is located on Route 134 and serves over 325 families monthly! Round Lake High School and St. Joseph’s School have already volunteered to participate. Watch this blog and the Daily Herald newspaper for more information and publicity on Make A Difference Day or check the website www.makeadifferenceday.com.

How Can You Help?

Great Eats

There are two restaurants that have opened recently in Round Lake. Plus there is one that has a change of ownership as well. I would give a review of them but they are all good so whats the point, go try them yourselves!

The first is Foldovers (847) 740-5200 on Fairfield & 134 (728 N Fairfield) at the CVS shopping area. They do a somewhat unique pizza which is folded over on top of itself. Its quite delicious and the portions are HUGE! A small feeds two Public Works employees I have been told! You can order to go, or sit down and enjoy right there!

The second place is Mike's Grill and Catering (847) 740-2399 at 399 North Wilson which has takeout but also sit-down, Mike's has an extensive menu of all sorts of goodies ranging from steaks, to fish, to burgers and points in between! I would recommend you try it out this weekend!

The last place is under new ownership and is called Leo's Chicago Style Grill (847) 740-6591 at 437 Wilson which has the standard fare that any Illinoisan has grown up on! Beef's Gyro's, Pizza etc. Mostly take-out here but you can sit an eat if you want!
